Besides the guy in the sombrero (more later), I’m also the author of BIG NUMBERS and BIG MONEY, the first two installments of The Austin Carr Mystery Series. I keep this website updated as often as I can, but my character Austin Carr blogs almost every day, frequently about our travels and experiences.
If you’re in a hurry for bio or past press, click on the appropriate headings above. Same if you want to buy books from our favorite BOOKSELLERS, or find out how to CONTACT us. If you’d like to see our schedule of appearances, click here on Book Tour . If you want to talk to our public relations lady, click here on PJ Nunn .
I’ve also set up separate blogs for BIG NUMBERS and BIG MONEY , with blurbs, reviews, and sample chapters.
Now about that hat...
Although we now live in New Jersey, both myself and my character Austin Carr grew up on the east side of Los Angeles. We share a strong affection for virtually all things of Mexican origin--particularly corn tortillas, tequila, the Cisco Kid, refried beans, crispy stringy-beef tacos, live mariachi music, and yes, even the donning of silly sombreros during certain celebrations in May.
It could have been my early school trip to Los Angeles’s historic town center, Olvera Street, or a four-hour family visit to Tijuana one or two years later. Maybe it was my first love, a fourth-grade classmate, the freckled Miss Lopez. Whatever the reason, to this day I enjoy all things remotely connected to south of the border. Well, except bullfights.
It is therefore no coincidence that Austin Carr spends much of his fictional time belly up to the horseshoe bar at Luis’s Mexican Grill, home of spicy food and blue aguave tequila. If it’s May 5th, you might see both of us celebrating in our sombreros. ‘THE KNIFE’ CONTEST WINNERS are Karen T, Diane L, munwell, Louis M, Neville from South Africa, Arlene F, Pearblossom Herself, Stephen 633, Madame La Farge, Joyce K, Margaret P, Ann B, and our Grand Prize Winner, Christina from Wisconsin. Each and all will receive a signed hardcover copy of BIG MONEY, and a “Big Money World Tour, Official Staff” T-shirt. Christina’s answer was so good, she also gets a $50 check for inspirational consulting: “No random act of violence was ever committed with a knife. Because sinking a steel blade into flesh requires personal contact and intention to harm, there is nothing ambiguous about wielding a knife. A knife is a tool of choice and a weapon of intention. More than a phallic symbol a knife represents manhood. Right or wrong, true men make their own decisions and commitments, then act upon the choices they make.” And all this time I thought I was just writing genre stuff. Thanks Christina, and thanks to everyone who entered the contest. If you didn’t have time or the inclination, you can still get a T-shirt by showing up at any of my appearances and mentioning the knife and manhood.

| CURRENT NEWS | July 06, 2008 |
BIG MONEY, published March 12 by Hilliard & Harris, was one of two Mystery Reads featured in Rediscovered Bookshop’s May newsletter.
In BIG MONEY, the second installment of The Austin Carr Mystery Series, Austin battles local and imported mobsters, a hit man he calls The Creeper, and a beautiful, shotgun-toting naked murderer. Here are some early reviews:
“Try not to drink any beverages while reading this one.” -- Jack Quick, BookBitch
“You end up both laughing outloud at (Austin’s) view of the world and rolling your eyes at his sexual impulses...” -- Liz Clifford, Reviewed By Liz
“You have gotta love Austin Carr.” -- Pat Reid, Books N’ Bytes
“...relax and enjoy Getze’s punchy dialogue and colorful characters--Bluefish’s henchman Max is an especially pungent creation--and his hilarious hangdog protagonist’s dissolute charm. If Elmore Leonard had gotten a securities license, this is the book he might have written.” -- Kirkus Discoveries, Featured in March Newsletter
